For ages 11-18
Beginners welcome. No homework – All fun!

Learning Objectives

When students complete Game Development with Unreal Editor for Fortnite, they will be able to:
  • 1 Navigate UEFN, a specialized version of Unreal Engine designed for Fortnite.
  • 2 Attain a foundational comprehension of game design principles by modeling game assets and building the game’s landscape.
  • 3 Create immersive Fortnite gaming experiences by incorporating elements such as enemies, game objectives, and a custom map.

Fortnite Coding Camp Lessons

Day 1 –

Building a Zombie Survival Base

In the first lesson, students design a custom base to safeguard against a zombie horde! Employing the Unreal Editor for Fortnite software, they select an island and edit the landscape according to their preferences. They construct their base using assets from the Content Browser, utilizing tools to manipulate, rotate, and scale items within their base. Additionally, they incorporate lighting, save their progress through Revision Control, and test their game in Fortnite.

Day 2 –

Zombie Waves and Ray Guns

In this lesson, progress their game using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite software. They focus on enhancing the zombie characters by modifying their attributes and design a wave system that alternates between zombie attacks and rest periods. Additionally, students equip their player with a ray gun for combat against the zombies. Through these activities, they gain valuable insights into game development, particularly in the application of game logic through timer and spawner devices.

DAY 3 –

Objectives and Game Start Systems

In this class, students develop objectives for their game, involving the discovery of power sources scattered throughout the map and the defeat of a specified number of zombies. This lesson teaches them the application of various UEFN tools, including Trackers, Elimination Managers, a Game End Device, among others. Additionally, they learn to design a starting area for the game, where players remain in their base until a button is pressed to initiate the zombie waves.

DAY 4 –

Currency Systems and In-Game Shops

In this lesson, student are taught how to construct an in-game store by establishing a designated area for the shop, introducing a coin-based currency system, and enabling coin acquisition through defeating zombies. They arrange the shop to their liking, with custom shop items and prices. Furthermore, they develop upgrades for their base that can be bought with an alternative currency of their choosing, which is discoverable across the map.

DAY 5 –

Supply Drops and Publishing Your Game

In this final lesson, students complete their Fortnite project by incorporating elements like supply drops, treasure chests, and XP boosts for achieving specific goals. They are taught the process of privately publishing their game on Fortnite, allowing them to play it without needing Unreal Editor for Fortnite open at the same time. Additionally, they are motivated to further develop their game by introducing new objectives, expanding the in-game shop inventory, and adding more collectible items.

Parents & Students Love The CodeWizardsHQ Summer Program!

Boy at coding camp

Great Program That Really Teaches Coding

Our 13 year old took this program over the summer and really enjoyed it. He found it challenging and fun at the same time. He thought it was a bit more difficult than typical middle school coding programs but that’s what kept him engaged. This wasn’t glorified babysitting, this program really taught him to do some coding. – Travis

Great Experience!

My son enrolled in the beginner class for Python Programming. It was great! He learned a lot and it was nice that all lectures are recorded since there were a few days he had to miss during the summer. – Sima Patel
