Course Description
In this extended course, which builds onto our Intro to Programming with Python course, students will elevate their final project by incorporating hand gesture detection. Using Google’s Teachable Machine, they’ll create and export AI models to enable player movement in their game through hand gestures. The course also teaches students how to troubleshoot common challenges and fine-tune their AI models for better performance. This extended course is perfect for kids eager to expand their horizons and delve into the fascinating world of Artificial Intelligence.
Learning Objectives
When students complete Dino Hunter with AI Gesture Detection, they will be able to:
- Develop and export custom AI models using Google’s Teachable Machine.
- Enhance AI models by testing and refining them for greater accuracy, including adding new classes and building larger models.
- Integrate AI capabilities into Python projects to detect hand gestures and movements.
Prerequisites
These courses must be completed before Dino Hunter with AI Gesture Detection:
- Wizard Level 1, Course 1 : Intro to Programming with Python
-
1. Creating an AI Model
In this first lesson, students dive into the exciting realm of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence by constructing an AI model using Google’s Teachable Machine, which they then load into the CodeWizardsHQ editor. Through this hands-on activity, they learn to create various classes to recognize specific hand gestures, integrating these into their Dino Hunter game from the previous course, Intro to Programming with Python, to control the dinosaur hunter’s movements up, down, left, or right. By the lesson’s end, students develop a foundational understanding of AI model creation and are ready to implement this model into their project code in the next lesson.
-
2. Implementing an AI model with code
In this lesson, students enhance their skills by integrating the AI model they developed with Teachable Machine in the previous class, which is designed to recognize hand gestures. The focus of this session is on adding logic to detect specific hand gestures and using conditional statements to adjust a player’s position based on the detected gesture. Through this experience, students gain valuable knowledge on effectively programming and incorporating AI models into their projects.
Class Schedule
All students start in Intro to Programming with Python at Wizard Level I. If you have previous coding experience, take the Placement test to skip ahead. Returning students can continue with the class where they left off.
