Some students are drawn to coding for creativity, others for problem-solving. For Ahrian, it is the chance to build something real. After more than ten CodeWizardsHQ classes, he has grown from Python fundamentals into full-stack projects that blend backend functionality with frontend design. He does not just complete assignments but expands them, adding features, refining layouts, and experimenting with how everything works together. What stands out most is his steady curiosity and the care he brings to every project.

Now 15 and currently finishing High School Level 3, Ahrian has built everything from a meme generator to interactive games using iframes. Most recently, he has been developing full applications that connect backend logic with thoughtfully designed user interfaces. With his capstone and internship ahead, he continues to push himself into more advanced work, always looking for ways to improve what he creates.

Discovering Coding

CodeWizardsHQ student, Ahrian

Ahrian’s journey with CodeWizardsHQ began when he was looking for a meaningful summer activity that could turn into something long-term. Coding sounded interesting, even though he had very little experience with it.

“I did not really know much about coding at the time,” Ahrian said. “I just tried it out, and it exceeded my expectations. It was really fun.”

His mom remembers searching for programs that offered more than short-term camps. What stood out about CodeWizardsHQ was the clear learning path and the opportunity to continue progressing through higher levels.

“It had a clear track,” she said. “You go from here to here to here, and then at the end, it had the internship option.”

After Ahrian completed his first class and enjoyed it, continuing felt natural.

“He seemed to like it and then continued to like it,” his mom said. “So we just kept on going.”

For Ahrian, coding quickly became more than just another activity.

“I wanted to learn how to code because it gave me the ability to create actual finished products that can have a purpose and use,” he said. “I thought that was cool.”

Building Skills Over Time

Ahrian started with Python and moved steadily through the curriculum, transitioning into the high school track as soon as he was eligible. Over time, his projects grew more complex, and so did his confidence.

One thing his mom appreciates is the consistency of his experience, especially having the same instructor across multiple courses.

“He has had the same teacher for many classes,” she said. “It is a very small group, and he has been in the same time slot for over a year now.”

While she does not always understand the technical details of Ahrian’s work, she sees the bigger picture.

She also notices how much he respects his instructor, which has made a meaningful difference in his learning.

Building Real Applications

After more than ten classes, Ahrian has completed a wide range of projects, but a few stand out as personal favorites.

One of the most meaningful was a recent Flask application that he worked on across an entire course. Rather than starting something new each lesson, Ahrian built on the same project week after week, eventually turning it into a complete app with both frontend and backend components.

He also took it a step further.

“I made it multi-user when it was going to be single-user,” he said.

That extra layer was not required. Ahrian added it because he wanted to challenge himself and make the project more realistic.

Another favorite was a meme generator, a project that combined creativity with functionality. Like many of his builds, it evolved over time as he added features and refined the experience.

“I really liked learning how to manage data on the backend,” he said, “and also how to make an aesthetically pleasing frontend user interface. And then combining everything to make a full app where the frontend and backend can interact.”

Building Technical Confidence

As Ahrian’s skills have developed, so has his interest in working outside the classroom environment. He has started experimenting with projects beyond the CodeWizardsHQ editor and enjoys learning tools he may use in the future.

When asked which languages he prefers, Ahrian says Python and JavaScript are his top choices.

“JavaScript has more applications with frontend stuff,” he explained. “But just as a programming language, I would probably say Python.”

What stands out most is how naturally Ahrian combines creativity with logic. He approaches coding with intention, experimenting when something interests him and pushing himself when something feels challenging.

Life Beyond Coding

Coding is a big part of Ahrian’s life, but it is far from the only thing that keeps him busy.

He is a ninth grader who enjoys history, especially learning how the past connects to the present. He is also an athlete, participating in cross-country as well as indoor and outdoor track.

Outside of school, Ahrian is involved in sustainability-related activities and enjoys spending time in his sustainability club. He also likes playing video games, with Breath of the Wild being a favorite, and he loves reading, especially fantasy series like The Hunger Games.

Ahrian also enjoys traveling with his family and exploring new places whenever they get the chance.

Looking Ahead

Ahrian is now moving into the final stretch of his CodeWizardsHQ journey, with advanced coursework ahead, followed by his capstone and internship experience. He already knows he plans to participate in the internship and is excited to apply everything he has learned in a real-world setting.

When he thinks about the future, Ahrian stays grounded. He is excited by game development, but he is also thinking more broadly about where coding can take him.

“I want to be able to make actual functional and useful programs that serve a purpose,” he said. “And also, as a side thing, I want to make games.”

He sees himself pursuing a career connected to coding and has started thinking about areas like computer science paired with finance or cybersecurity. For Ahrian, coding is not just a subject. It is a foundation he plans to build on as his interests continue to grow.

What stands out most is Ahrian’s consistency. He shows up week after week, builds beyond the requirements, experiments on his own, and continues challenging himself as the material becomes more advanced. That steady momentum, paired with his curiosity and creativity, has shaped his journey so far and will continue to guide him as he takes his next steps.

His instructor, Josh, has seen that growth firsthand:

I have had the pleasure of working with Ahrian for almost two years now. He is one of the youngest students in the high school curriculum and also one of the brightest. He consistently answers high-level questions and demonstrates a strong conceptual understanding of programming. Ahrian goes above and beyond on projects more than any other student I have worked with. It will be a bittersweet day in a few months when he graduates from CWHQ. He will be missed, but I know he is going to accomplish great things.
